I am writing this as the family sleeps and the flat remains in darkness. Outside there is the ever approaching rumble of thunder and an odd lightening strike. Amaia’s Communion Day has arrived and it is going to be a very wet one! But that’s ok because on Friday afternoon I wasn’t even sure it was going to take place! I got a call from the school telling me Amaia hadn't felt well all afternoon and was running a temperature. Of course the first thing that sprung to my mind was COVID. We had made plans for that afternoon and evening and everything got cancelled even though Amaia made the speediest of recoveries. It’s amazing what fresh air, breathing without a mask and taking off your thick school hoody can do! So we had a quiet Friday night promising the girls if we did this all the play dates we’d planned could continue. They grudgingly accepted the earlier bed time and lighter dinner.
Saturday Amaia woke up ravenous, Thankfully the bakery is literally next door and we settled down for a pastry breakfast. At 10h00 Amaia had a hair dresser appointment and had her first ever blow dry. It took over an hour! Of course she endured the discomfort of being pulled this way and that without one word of complaint (unlike when I brush her hair!) and she was beyond delighted with the end result. It was worth it to see her smile at the end!
Meanwhile back at the flat Leia was having a play date with her best friend, Leia. There was lots of music, dancing, playing, craft work and general fun, They only stopped when the pizza delivery arrived. The hours flew by and at 14h00 we had to leave a smartly dressed Leia at the school to make her first Confession. Husband acted as the family chauffeur as we dropped off my Leia at the school, dropped the other Leia off home and picked up Amaia’s friend for an afternoon play date. Again the afternoon flew by with games, treats, Pokemon cards, make overs and card making. Both times I was mostly ignored and able to do my own things. They were extraordinarily relaxing play dates!
Today Amaia will be dropped off at the school at 9h45 and we will head to the Cathedral. The mass itself won’t start till 10h30. Not sure what we will do in the time inbetween!
A deafening clap of thunder has brought the girls running out of their room... I guess my writing session is over!
