Weekend: Walks, Wardrobes and Driving

The weekend was shockingly productive. We did everything we set out to do, which is not really like us!

Saturday morning we did the coastal walk to lovely Plage Mala. We left early to avoid frying in the sun and arrived at about 10h30. However, I had to scrap the proposed swim because the water was FREEZING! We hadn't taken into account the wind over the last few days or the earlier than usual arrival making the water a good 10 degrees colder than our last visit!

Saturday afternoon we drove to Italy to look for wardrobes. Maybe we were unlucky but the suggested showroom only had wardrobes that were about 2.5m tall and about the same width, so none of them were suitable. Also, they were all ugly and well over a €1000 - this was suppose to be the cheaper option!!

After so much activity, Saturday night was going to be quiet. We decided to eat in Beausoleil (France) which is just up the road from us. We probably only do this about once a year, mainly because we haven't come across any amazing restaurant. On Saturday we found that both restaurants we knew of were closed. Great! We decided to walk down to Wine O'Clock where we had a hearty meal with a lot of cheeses!!

Sunday was Ironman 70.3 which is a triathlon type race. I think it's more than your usual triathlon - 1.9km swim, 90km cycle and 21km run. Not sure why anyone would choose to do that but anyway.... We went down and saw a lot of sweaty people cycling and running (we weren't up early enough for the 07h00 swim start!) around the beach area and then we walked up to Casino Square to watch some of them finish. I have to say the ones we saw finish didn't even look that happy to finish in just 4.5hours or maybe they were too exhausted?!

With the afternoon came the part of the weekend I was most dreading - driving. Husband drove us to Mougins to check the location of a house and I drove back. The drive was uneventful apart from one crazy driver over taking me on the inside when it was totally unnecessary. We decided against the location as although it was within walking distance of Mougins we realised Mougins old town only seems to have restaurants and art galleries. We didn't spot a bakery or a supermarket!

Once I'd recovered from my driving we did a long walk round Monaco ending with dinner on the beach and an early night. It was a good weekend because we got things done BUT it was maybe a little too quiet by our usual standards...
